The famed outdoor theatre production of The Shepherd of the Hills will return for the 2014 season. The announcement was made in mid-October that 2013 would be the productions final season, but organizers have announced that the show will return for a more limited schedule for their 55th season in Branson.
“Last fall was a very difficult time,” said Sharena Naugher, Marketing Director and co-owner of the homestead. “My Dad had been fighting pancreatic and liver cancer all summer, our attendance numbers had declined, and we felt very beat up and like the odds were stacked against us. Closing the show that had been so much a part of my family was heartbreaking, but seemed like our only option at the time. However, the overwhelming outpouring of love and support from the entire community and our fans was such an incredible blessing. We were completely blown away!”
The final performance of the show was October 19th, Gary Snadon passed away on October 31st. “It was an extremely difficult time,” Naugher goes on to say. “We’ve taken the winter to step back and recover, to analyze our options, and to pray.…a lot! It became very apparent to my husband and I, to my Mom and my children, and to my sister and her family, that we very much want to continue this amazing legacy.”
The show will open May 23rd, Memorial Day weekend. The schedule has been pared back from 6 nights a week to 4 during the summer months and weekends only during the fall, but the spectacular production will remain the same. “We are humbled and grateful to our friends and cast members who have stood beside us. It’s been said a million times but its still true - our cast members, some who have been with the show for over 40 years, are just like family. It’s definitely been our family that has carried us through this dark time. Now we are ready to begin a new chapter fight and fight hard for our next 55 seasons.”
Tickets will go on sale Monday, April 7th and can be purchased online at www.theshepherdofthehills.com or by calling 1-800-653-6288.
